Halo 2 built upon the sucess of Halo: combat evolved. one of the main features of halo 2 was the support of Xbox Live gameplay. No longer did you have to stare at tiny screens because of split screen multiplayer. Also improved were the graphics and gameplay. More maps and modes were added to multiplayer. Dual weilding was added. A new story line (albiet worse, IMO) was added.

The story added a new class of aliens to the mix: brutes, which seemed to take over in power of the alien race of the covenant towards the end of the game, allying the humans with the alien race of "elites"
